November Challenge Logs – Week 2

I haven’t counted up all of the points for this second week yet, but at a glance, I think I did pretty darn well this week with meeting my goals.

I earned a C last week and set a goal to do better this week.  By do better, I meant earn a better grade, like a B or an A.  I’m not sure if I did that much better, but I think I did.  I think I earned at least a B this week.

Of course what I think doesn’t really matter.  This is a point system, so I need to add up all of the points I earned compared to the points possible in order to determine what my grade was for the week.  So let’s get to it!

Just a reminder for you, using a habit tracker each month totally helps with meeting your goals because, if you’re anything like me, you consider the check mark an accomplishment so you start working for check marks.

My Goals

Self Care

Copyright: kharlamova / 123RF Stock Photo

My self care goals were pretty simple: get up and weigh myself, brush my teeth, take my meds, eat enough, easy on the salt intake, log consumption, and brush my teeth again before bed.

I think I did pretty well this week on most of that.  I did forget to brush my teeth a few times before bed and there were like 2 cheat days on salt intake where I really overdid it on consuming unhealthiness.

Besides those two problematic areas, I think I pretty much nailed these goals.  I couldn’t earn a point for my healthcare planning because I accomplished that the first week so it’s done and there wasn’t a point available for that one.  But I could’ve earned a point each for completing my labs or visiting the doctor.  I could’ve earned a point each for brushing my teeth all 7 days twice which makes 14 points available for that goal for the week.  And then there was a point available, per day, for consuming 1,000 or more calories, staying under 2,300 mg of sodium, taking my meds, weighing myself, and logging my consumption.  So for those 5 goals times 7 days, we get 35 points available to add to the 14 for brushing my teeth and the 2 for healthcare stuff.

For the entire 7 days of this week, I had a grand total of 51 possible points for the Self Care goal. But I only earned 44 points for this week. That’s an 86%, better than last week! Still a B though, so let’s break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

I weighed 248.9, as expected the bad pizza day screwed up my progress for the week but it’s still a pound less than when I started this challenge. I took my meds and brushed my teeth after breakfast. Once again, I forgot to brush my teeth before going to bed. I will get this eventually. Sheesh. I consumed 1,419 calories and only 1,642 mg of sodium. I logged everything consumed. This earned me 6 points.

Monday

I weighed 149.9 pounds, slowly undoing everything I accomplished last week. Damn that pizza! That’s alright, I’ll work it back off. I went to the VA and got my labs done first thing in the morning. I took my meds and brushed my teeth after breakfast. I consumed at least 1,000 calories and less than 2,300 mg of sodium. I need to work on the Sugar. But that wasn’t a goal for this month. I brushed my teeth after dinner and and logged everything I consumed which earned me to 8 points for the day!

11 – 05 -18 – MyFitnessPal Stats

Tuesday

I weighed 147.6 pounds, 2 pounds less than the day before! After breakfast, I took my meds and brushed my teeth. I consumed more than 1,000 calories and kept my sodium level under 2,300 mg. I brushed my teeth after dinner and logged everything so I earned 7 points.

11 – 06 -18 – MyFitnessPal Stats

Wednesday

I weighed 148.4 pounds. I took my meds and brushed my teeth after breakfast. I consumed well over 1,000 points but also over 2,300 mg of sodium. I overate here, no excuses, I knew what I was doing when I decided it was a cheat day. Oh well. I brushed my teeth after dinner and obviously logged my consumption. So I earned 6 points in this category.

11 – 07 -18 – MyFitnessPal Stats

Thursday

I weighed exactly 248 pounds. I forgot to take my meds and brush my teeth after breakfast. My first meeting was at 9:30am which is earlier than I’m ready to deal with people. From that point on, I was in back to back meetings until 4pm and didn’t get the daily things I needed to do done. I did take my meds…at bedtime. I did consume more than 1,000 calories and less than 2,300 mg of sodium. I did brush my teeth and log my consumption before bed. So, I earned 6 points. Not bad.

11 – 08 -18 – MyFitnessPal Stats

Friday

I weighed 247.3 pounds and am happy to see it going back down, if only by a little bitty bit. I brushed my teeth and took my meds. I (barely) consumed more than 1,000 calories and kept my sodium under the 2,300 mg. I obviously logged everything. I earned 6 points.

11 – 09 -18 – MyFitnessPal Stats

Saturday

I weighed 245.8! That’s the lowest I’ve seen in a long time! I’m so happy about that! I brushed my teeth and took my meds after waking up. I consumed more than 1,000 calories but did not stay under 2,300 mg of sodium. I almost doubled it in fact. Not cool, Ki. Not cool. After logging everything, I earned 5 points.

Household Chores

I did good on household chores. I’ve had a set schedule with chores for maybe six months or so and have pretty well gotten into a routine. Some weeks I do really well, other weeks I skip them completely.  Of course, the goal is to not skip them at all.

So, for household chores, my goal is to do the dishes twice per week which means I could earn two points for that.  I have 8 other chores with the goal of accomplishing them once per week so that’s another 8 points available which means I could’ve earned up to 10 points in this category for this week.

Like last week, I earned 9 points for this category. That’s a 90%, very good. So let’s break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

I did not do any chores because…it’s Sunday and I don’t hafta. So there.

Monday

Washed the dishes when the sink was full with cups and meal prep containers, worth a point.

Monday – Clean Kitchen

Tuesday

I did not do any chores on Tuesday.

Wednesday

I washed dishes and took the recycling out. I also cleaned the bathroom. Yay, three points!

Clean Bathroom

Thursday

I did not do any chores.

Friday

I did the laundry, cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the living room, the dining room, and the office. That’s 5 points.

Friday – Clean Kitchen

Saturday

I did not do any chores.

Family

Family Love

For my Family goals, I had two goals to happen twice each during the month.  That was family outings and family visits.  So, if I did both during this week, I could’ve earned 4 points there.

I had two goals that I wanted to accomplish once per week.  That was train a new command with my dog and give him a bath.  So that would be two points possible here.

I had one goal, to grade papers, 5 times per week which would be 5 possible points.  Finally, I had a goal to converse with my son daily.  So that would be 7 possible points, one for each day of the week.

For this category, I had a grand total of 18 possible points for the Family category. I earned 15 for this week. That’s a 88%, nice. That’s a higher grade than last week, I brought it up to a B.  So let’s break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

My son and I talked about the 1911 pistol that we both want from the WWII era when we saw it on a show we watched together. We talked about a game of peek-a-boo with his dog that I had this morning before he woke up. We let the neighbor’s dog over and talked about how his dog was behaving toward her. We talked about what happened with the police officer that showed up to talk to me about our neighbors. This was worth 1 point.

Monday

My son and I talked about the October Fitness Challenge and the reasons I failed it as well as the consequences. He ran with me a little bit while we talked during my work out and then I sat down and graded his papers while catching my breath. This earned me 2 points.

Tuesday

My son and I talked about how we’re raised being told to give 100% to everything we do. But when it comes to working out, I would give 100% and couldn’t breathe or wind up hurting myself. The workout I was doing while we talked explained it nicely. She said she wanted 75% of what we were capable of. She said if you’re breathing real hard, you’re going to fast and you need to slow it down. This helped me learn and understand what an effective work out feels like. He listened to the coaching throughout the workout and we talked about why it was effective. For example, as we started to transition from a flat walk to a jog or run, I let out a heavy sigh because it was first thing in the morning, I was halfway through the workout and I was tired. But just then, the coach said, “Don’t let those negative thoughts of weakness take over right now. Push through it and give me a good run but, remember, I want to see 75% of what you got.” That was enough to motivate me to suck it up and push through that moment of tiredness and complete the 30 minute workout. My son explained how his positive encouragement to his friends the night before helped the team win the video game they were playing when the others were making negative comments. It was a great teaching moment for my son to see how positivity goes so much further than negativity.

Wednesday

My son and I talked about the election results and the President’s speech as well as the media reaction to it. We went out to dinner again as well. So, I earned 2 points in this category.

My Son

Thursday

I talked to my son about the California shooting. We talked about how some of the victims had also witnessed the Las Vegas shooting. We talked about how the shooter was a former marine with PTSD that served in Afghanistan and how his mother was afraid of him and warned that he might do something like this. We talked about how this tragedy was completely preventable and that our system failed. We talked about our plans for the weekend as Beck and I made plans to get together this weekend. We talked about diabetes and how he and I are both high risk for Type 2 diabetes because it runs and the family and because I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with him. The labs I did on Monday revealed that my glucose level was 116 so I am now pre-diabetic. We need to seriously make some lifestyle changes and shame on me for waiting this long when I knew it was coming. I have some work to do. In the meantime, I earned a point by conversing about it with my son.

Friday

We talked about the plans for the day since I was off work. The usual plans are that I go grocery shopping but I need to do some research and re-plan my meals to accommodate my glucose level. So we talked about how that was going to impact our regular meal plans for this week. We went out to breakfast on our way to the grocery store and we bathed the doggies. I earned 3 points here. We talked about buying a house and made plans for what kind of house we would buy and what happens when he’s ready to leave home when he’s grown. I graded all of his papers for the week throughout this day while I was taking breaks from chores and errands. So, I earned 6 points for the day.

Saturday

We talked about the grocery plans for the week. We talked about a game my son wants and if it is within his budget to buy it. We talked about how he’s been neglecting his chores most days and how that has impacted his budget. Since we went on the hike, out to lunch, and to the primate sanctuary…this counts as a family outing, right? So I earned 2 points here.

Social

Social Butterfly

Interestingly, I may be a little more social than I thought.  Or at least I am this month.

I had only set two goals on this one, both to be accomplished once during the entire month.

I don’t really go out with friends like a lot of people do.  Beck and I get together maybe once a year and do something.  Other than that, I pretty much keep to myself.  I don’t like traffic, I don’t like drama, and my patience for stupidity is very low so I keep myself pretty much in isolation so my stress levels stay low.

So there were two points available to earn here this week, 1 for time with Beck and 1 for adult time.

I actually earned 4 points this week!  Extra credit! That’s a 200%, excellent! I had all month to accomplish these two goals so totally knocked the Social category out of the park this month! So let’s break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

Again, spent a few hours hanging out with the neighbors and talking, playing with the dogs and the babies until the police arrived about the same neighbor I mentioned last week. They were beating my fence with a pool net pole and throwing glass bottles over the fences at the dogs and babies. This earned me an extra credit point because I’ve already accomplished my social goal for adulting this month!

Monday

Nothing social done on this day unless you count being chatty online.

Tuesday

Nothing social done on this day unless you count being chatty online.

Wednesday

Nothing social done on this day unless you count being chatty online.

Thursday

Nothing social done on this day unless you count being chatty online.

Friday

I spent time with the neighbors again talking about other neighbors, helicopters, Puerto Rico, and baby making. Beck came to visit! YAY!!! We visited for several hours and then crashed hard in preparation for Saturday’s hike and monkey visit. I earned 2 points here.

Neighbor Child

Saturday

My son, Beck and I went for a hike in the Withlacoochee Forest, went out to lunch, and then visited the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary to see monkeys.  Later, my son and I spent about an hour hanging out with the neighbors when Beck left to go home. They were four-wheeling in the back yard and we talked about the new four wheeler they bought for their daughter and how it would cause drama with their family. We talked about what my son and I had done with Beck during the day and how close it was to where my neighbors got married. We talked about the drama going on with a couple sets of neighbors. I earned a social point here.

Hobbies

Hobbies

I only had four goals in this category.  With it being hobbies, it’s something that we do when we have time and we feel like it.  The universe has to be just right in order for these hobby things to actually happen.

Each of those goals was to be earned at least one time during the month because…yeah…stars have to align and stuff.

So there were only four points possible in this category for this week and that’s only if I managed to complete all four goals in just one week.

Amazingly, the stars aligned just the right way and I actually earned all four points this week!

Let’s take a look at what I did to accomplish this.

Sunday

I finished my sailboat coloring page finally! I started it in October but I ended up in bed sick with the flu and lost my desire to color for a few weeks. So I earned another point here!

Monday

Did not work on any hobbies.

Tuesday

Colored just a little bit of a new coloring page.

Wednesday

I went to the store and bought one supply that I needed to get my crafty thingy done for the month. But I didn’t craft, so no points.

Thursday

Did not work on any hobbies.

Friday

Beck helped me finish up the Halloween stuffed envelope that I owed. So we each earned a point here!

Hobby Item – Stuffed Envelope

Saturday

With Beck, my son and I went for a hike in the Withlacoochee Forest. We repeated a hike that we had done previously where we found an old abandoned cemetery that we had been searching for. My son and I had found it previously but didn’t get to the actual graves because of huge orb weaver spiders blocking up the path we needed to take to get in. This time, that wasn’t the case and we made it to the actual graves. So I met my take a hike and visit a cemetery goals both in one shot and completed the final two hobby goals for the month! That’s two points.

Exercise

Exercise

I learned some bad news this week.  After I got my labs done at the beginning of the week, I logged into my health account and reviewed the labs online to see what they tested and how I did because…I didn’t study, y’all.

Everything looked good except for my glucose level.  My glucose was at 116 which means I’m pre-diabetic.  That’s the bad news.  I’ve known this was coming for a long time because I’ve been high risk all of my life so I knew with the weight problems that I would face this at some point.  That point has arrived.

So now I’m determined to beat it.  I have to get on the ball and create this healthy habit of exercising regularly along with making the appropriate diet changes.

The only goal I set for this category was to achieve 30 active minutes per day as a consequence of losing the October Killer Cardio Challenge.

For this category, I had a grand total of 7 possible points for the Exercise category. I earned 7 for this week. That’s a 100%, fantastic! Does the 85 active minutes on Saturday give me any extra credit points?  So let’s break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

Power walked for about 30 minutes after I woke up so that it was done for the day and I didn’t have to worry about forgetting to do it. One more point!

Monday

Completed the Easy Breezy with Maria Low Intensity 30 minute Cardio routine on my Fit Radio app which earned 1 point.

Tuesday

Earned 1 point by completing the Fight For It with Coach Dee Free Low Intensity, 30 minutes Cardio routine on my Fit Radio app. “Do the hard things until they’re easy” was today’s motto.

Wednesday

I completed the Ninety Seven with Coach Maria Low Intensity, 30 minute Cardio routine on my Fit Radio app. This earned my 1 point for 30 active minutes for the day.

Active Minutes

Thursday

Completed the Push Forward, Pull Back with Coach Maria and DJ Flash Low Intensity, 30 minute Cardio routine on my Fit Radio app.

Friday

Using my Fit Radio app, I completed the Challenge for Change with Corlyn and DJ Un33k 35 minute low intensity, cardio routine.

Saturday

I obtained my 30 active minutes for the day using my Fit Radio app for the Get Your Wog On 30 minute cardio routine with Maria. On top of that, I earned an additional 55 active minutes between the hike we took and walking around the primate sanctuary!

Work

Work

This category is a big one and contains the most goals. I have a lot that I want to do in this category each week.  One of the goals was a once during the month goal which I completed in the first week.  That was the gamification presentation.  So that point is not available to be earned anymore this month.

I had two goals that I wanted to complete 5 times per week, access requests and work inbox, but those don’t get done on my off Fridays.  So there were 8 points available here.

One goal, TMDC Email was set to accomplish 4 times per week which would have been 4 points possible.  FS Email made 3 points possible by accomplishing it 3 times per week and FS Post would have given 2 points if accomplished twice per week.

Personal email was to be accomplished daily which would have made 7 points possible for this goal.  All of the other 7 goals were to be accomplished once per week, making 7 more points possible.

So for this category, I had a grand total of 31 possible points for the Work category.

I earned 23 for this week. That’s a 74%, not too good.  That is not a passing grade.  I need to do better on this one.

So let’s break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

Posted my coloring page onto the TMDC website which counted as my TMDC post for the week. This earned me 1 point.

Monday

I cleared out both my work and personal inboxes. I worked the access requests and completed the F Report. I also wrote and published my Monday Motivation post. All of these earned 5 points!

Tuesday

I cleared out both my work and personal inboxes first thing upon logging in. I worked the access requests in queue and I ran and communicated the PR Report for the week. I created two of the emails that I need to create for TMDC and created one of the emails for FS. This earned me 7 points.

Wednesday

I cleared out both inboxes first thing in the morning again. I ran and communicated the U Report for the week. I worked the Access Requests. But then the day got super busy with people pulling me in different directions to help with different things and I got sidetracked on the things I needed to accomplish. So, I only earned 4 points for the day in this category.

Thursday

As usual, I cleared out both inboxes first thing in the morning. I worked the Access Requests and then I was stuck in meetings all day and didn’t do anything else productive. So I only earned 3 points here.

Friday

This was my Friday off so work inbox and access requests are a big ol’ bag of nopes today. But I did publish a recipe here on Forget Skinny and I wrote two emails for TMDC.

Saturday

I did not do anything work related on Saturday and I’m not ashamed. I had a fantastic day.

So what’s my overall grade for the week? Well, there were 123 points possible this week. I earned 106 points for the week. That is 86% which is a B grade.  I brought my grade up by 10%!  I am totally happy with this score this week.  But…I want an A.

Let’s see how I do this coming week.

Remember, forget skinny…train to be a fit badass!
