November Challenge - 2018 - Ki

November Challenge Logs - Week 1

I am off to a pretty good start, I think.  At least I did a good job of logging my goals on my tracker sheets.  This made it so much easier to remember what I accomplished and what I didn't.

So here's the thing, this challenge just kind of sprung on me the night before it started so I hadn't had time to sit down and figure out goals yet.  Things were super busy and I had several posts needing to be published around that time so for a few days in there I literally worked from the moment I rolled out of bed to the moment I went to bed.  I try not to do that.

But since that happened, no goals got set and nothing got logged until 3 days after the challenge started.  Adult ADHD...I don't have the memory capacity to figure out what I did at the beginning of the week.  I've slept since then.  So my "grade" will suffer for this first week, I won't be able to get the best grade for this challenge.  But that's okay, I'm pretty sure I can still pull off a C.

Just a reminder for you, using a habit tracker each month totally helps with meeting your goals because, if you're anything like me, you consider the check mark an accomplishment so you start working for check marks.

My Goals

Self Care

Self Care

For the most part, I did pretty good on these goals.

I had about two days I think where calories and sodium were an issue.  But thank goodness I didn't set a sugar goal, boy howdy!

Halloween starts the beginning of the annual sugar-filled holidays so a sugar goal would have been more detrimental than not.

We never want to set ourselves up for failure.  Sodium is the big deal for me right now anyway because of the high blood pressure.  We want to keep sodium down.  I actually set my goal wrong on that one.  The daily recommended amount of sodium is 2,300 mg maximum, not 2,700.  So I'm modifying that goal for the remaining weeks of this challenge.  I need to stay under 2,300 mg of sodium from now on to receive points.

I had a grand total of 45 possible points for the Self Care goal.  But I only earned 37 for the first week.  That's an 82%, not bad!  So let's break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

We had not started this challenge yet so I did not log this day.

Monday

I brushed my teeth after breakfast but I forgot to brush my teeth before bed. Halloween candy is going to do me in this month with all this sugar. I did pretty good with calorie consumption with only 1,143 calories as well as sodium with only 1,332 mg consumed. But I ate (or drank) 115 grams of sugar! I weighed 250.2 pounds…officially the heaviest I've ever been.   I took my meds and logged everything I consumed on this day.  I earned 6 points on Monday.

Tuesday

As usual, I brushed my teeth after breakfast but I forgot to brush my teeth before bed. This was a good day for the diet. I only consumed 1,374 calories and 2,067 mg of sodium. I went a little bit over on sugar due to Halloween candy. But that's why I didn't set a sugar goal this month. We'll work on sugar again after the sugar-filled holidays are over. I weighed 247.9 pounds.   I took my meds and logged everything I consumed on this day.  I earned 6 points on Tuesday.

Wednesday

I brushed my teeth after breakfast but I forgot to brush my teeth before bed.   I consumed a few too many calories at 1,951 because…Halloween candy. I knew this would be a bad week for the diet. But I met my sodium goal by staying under 2,700 at 1,697 mg. I weighed 248.6 pounds.   I took my meds and logged everything I consumed on this day.  I earned 6 points on Wednesday.

Thursday

Completed annual enrollment and signed up for a plan that would allow me to visit the specialist for RA. I remembered to brush my teeth before bed but did not do it when I first woke up because I was rushing to get logged into work remembering I needed to present the Gamification stuff today and hadn't started pulling the reports yet. I consumed 1,419 calories for the day including only 1,550mg of sodium. I weighed 247.8 pounds. I took my meds and logged everything I consumed on this day.  I earned 7 points on Thursday.

Friday

I did remember to brush my teeth both when I woke up and before I went to bed. I consumed 1,736 calories, my son and I went out to eat for dinner. That was our outing for this week. I consumed 2,235 mg of sodium which is under the 2,700 goal I set. I took my meds, logged everything, and weighed myself as well. I weighed 246.8 which was four pounds less than I weighed on Monday.   I earned 7 points on Friday.

Saturday

I brushed my teeth after breakfast but once again I forgot to brush my teeth before I went to bed. I let my son talk me into ordering a pizza and therefore consumed way too many calories at 2,555. And I consumed way too much sodium at 4,313 mg. I know pizza days are really bad and need to stop caving. It's the bread that kills me. I weighed 247.2 but I'm sure it'll be more tomorrow after this really unhealthy day.   I took my meds and logged everything I consumed on this day.  I earned 5 points on Saturday.

Household Chores

I did good on household chores.  I've had a set schedule with chores for maybe six months or so and have pretty well gotten into a routine.  Some weeks I do really well, other weeks I skip them completely.

This particular week, I did really well because...goals.  I must admit, it's definitely more motivating to get them done when I'm getting some form of credit for it.  Even if it is just a self-awarded grade on this handy website of mine.

For this category, I had a grand total of 10 possible points for the Home category.  I earned 9 for the first week.  That's a 90%, very good.  So let's break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

We had not started this challenge yet so I did not log this day.

Monday

Took the trash down to the curb and cleaned off my desk and the office.

Tuesday

I did not do any chores on Tuesday.

Wednesday

Did the laundry and took the recycling out.

Thursday

Family

Family Love

I have a small family.  It's just my son and I in the household.  My grandmother lives close but there's no real relationship there.  She's paranoid schizophrenic and doesn't let anybody into her life.

My parents live in Puerto Rico but are in the process of moving back up here to Florida due to the hurricane Maria madness that happened last year.

So when it comes to family goals, I didn't have many to make.  My son is 14 years old so we pretty much have our family stuff established already.  It's just a matter of making sure the important things get done.

For this category, I had a grand total of 13 possible points for the Family category.  I earned 9 for the first week.  That's a 69%, not good.  So let's break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

We had not started this challenge yet so I did not log this day.

Monday

I did not have family goals set yet. I'm sure I had conversations with my son but I don't remember what they were and therefore won't log it.

Tuesday

I did not have family goals set yet. I'm sure I had conversations with my son but I don't remember what they were and therefore won't log it.

Wednesday

I discussed Thanksgiving plans with my son and we talked about my parent's move back to Florida from Puerto Rico.  This earned 1 point.

Thursday

My son and I discussed healthcare options, Obamacare, the VA, and gun control. We talked about how vacation time is accrued at work and how many hours I've accrued so far. We discussed options for what to do with those hours. I graded papers for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  This earned 4 points.

Friday

I went out to dinner with my son. We watched a show together and talked about what happened in the show and we talked about his dog. We also made plans to take a hike next Friday and return to the old abandoned cemetery that we were searching for earlier in the year and found but didn't get into. Hopefully the orb weaver spiders won't have the entryway blocked off.  This earned 2 points.

Saturday

My son and I watched some TV together and bathed the dogs together. We talked about a couple of things his dog had done while he was in his room and couldn't see her. We talked about the neighbor's dog and how she's a little jealous now of his dog because she was my dog's first girlfriend and kind of got replaced with my son's dog. We also talked about a future job opportunity for him.  This earned 2 points.

Social

Social Butterfly

The social category is a little harder.  I'm not at all a social person.  Going out and being social stresses me out.

I can tolerate very few people in this world for more than a couple minutes at a time.

Therefore, I only set two goals for this one.

For this category, I had a grand total of 2 possible points for the Social category.  I earned 1 for the first week.  That's a 50%, excellent in this case!  I had all month to accomplish these two goals so I'm halfway done with this one already!  So let's break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

We had not started this challenge yet so I did not log this day.

Monday

I didn't have this goal set yet and I'm sure I didn't do anything social other than possibly chatting with people online. But I'm not sure enough to log points for it.

Tuesday

I didn't have this goal set yet and I'm sure I didn't do anything social other than possibly chatting with people online. But I'm not sure enough to log points for it.

Wednesday

I didn't have this goal set yet and I'm sure I didn't do anything social other than possibly chatting with people online. But I'm not sure enough to log points for it.

Thursday

Spent two hours talking and hanging out with neighbors. We talked about the neighbors behind us that are causing problems with our dogs and tossing trash over our fences as well as how the kids aren't supervised. My neighbor has a newborn baby so we talked about him while I played with their toddler daughter while grilling dinner and letting the dogs play together.

Friday

Initiated a conversation with a friend online.

Saturday

Initiated a conversation with a friend online. Had conversation with the delivery person about her lab and our dogs.

Hobbies

Hobbies

I didn't set many expectations for the hobbies this month.  I know it's going to be a busy month and October was a stressful month so I needed to be realistic with this one.

I use crafting and coloring to relieve stress.  I use cemetery visits and hiking to get some outdoors time without being bothered by people and traffic.  Perfectly logical to me!

For this category, I had a grand total of 4 possible points for the Hobbies category.  I earned 0 for the first week.  Keep in mind that each of the goals is a monthly goal for this category so I have all month to accomplish them.  But let's take a look at what I did for the first week.

Sunday

We had not started this challenge yet so I did not log this day.

Monday

I didn't have this goal set yet and therefore did not meet it.

Tuesday

I didn't have this goal set yet and therefore did not meet it.

Wednesday

I didn't have this goal set yet and therefore did not meet it.

Thursday

I didn't have this goal set yet and therefore did not meet it.

Friday

Worked on a sailboat coloring page, didn't finish.

Saturday

Almost finished coloring my sailboat page.  Points will only be earned upon completion of project.

Exercise

Exercise

Let's get real here, this whole website is about a weight loss journey, two actually, mine and Beck's.  So exercise is a pretty important category, right?

Yeah...but...we must remember that when there are medical issues, we have to listen to our bodies and our doctors.

My doctor has not told me not to exercise, but my body has.  Both my doctors and my trainers have told me in the past to never workout when in pain.

I have been in pain all month because I'm off my pain meds.  Now, that said, I have arthritis, it's painful.  I don't count that as a reason not to exercise, I count that as a reason to exercise.  But I'm also a disabled veteran with a back injury.  It's when my back is acting up that I don't workout.

That said, I figured out the reason for my back pain this last couple weeks.  It's the weather change.  We got about 30 degrees colder.  That triggers a flare up and puts me in pain for a few days while my back adjusts, part of arthritis too.  So I'm going to proceed with my workout goals now that the flare up has calmed back down.

The only goal I set for this one was to achieve 30 active minutes per day as a consequence of losing the October Killer Cardio Challenge.

For this category, I had a grand total of 6 possible points for the Exercise category.  I earned 3 for the first week.  That's a 50%, not good.  But I waited until my back was feeling better so I'm forgiving myself for it.  So let's break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

We had not started this challenge yet so I did not log this day.

Monday

I did not have this goal set yet and therefore did not meet it.

Tuesday

I did not have this goal set yet and therefore did not meet it.

Wednesday

I did not have this goal set yet and therefore did not meet it.

Thursday

Obtained 35 active minutes by popping in my earbuds and power walking while doing household chores.

Friday

Achieved active minutes by popping earbuds in and power walking while doing household chores again for 16 minutes. Two birds, one stone! The rest was power walking later in the day and dancing around to the jams in my ears.

Saturday

Power walked for 31 minutes achieving my goal for active minutes.

Work

Work

This category is a big one and contains the most goals. I have a lot that I want to do in this category each week.

For this category, I had a grand total of 33 possible points for the Work category.  I earned 27 for the first week.  That's a 82%, pretty good.  So let's break it down and take a look at what I accomplished.

Sunday

Wrote and published my Sunday Stats post. Also published the challenge post that Beck wrote. But we had not started this challenge yet so those don't count.

Monday

I worked on verifying the work of my team members so that I could compile the status report for our team meeting on Thursday. I ran and communicated the F Report as planned and ensured my mailbox was cleared out and access requests were worked. Wrote and published my Monday Motivation post.  My personal email was taken care of also.  I earned 6 points.

Tuesday

I ran and communicated the PR Report. My mailbox was cleared out and the access requests were worked.  Personal email was taken care of as well.  I earned 4 points.

Wednesday

I completed the status activities for the major project at work and shared the status with my team. I also ran the U Report and emailed it out to the team as planned. My mailbox was cleared out and the access requests were worked as well.  My personal email was cleared out also.  This earned 5 points.

Thursday

Completed the Gamification presentation at work and communicated it out appropriately. My mailbox was cleared out and the access requests were worked as well.  My personal email was cleared out as well.  This earned 4 points.

Friday

My mailbox was cleared out and the access requests were worked. I also created all four of the TMDC emails I needed to create for the week and cleared out my personal email.  This earned me 7 points.

Saturday

Cleared out my personal inbox.  This earned me only 1 point.

So what's my overall grade for the week?  Well, this was a short week with the challenge starting on a Monday instead of a Sunday, so there were only 113 points possible this week.  I earned 86 points for the week.  That is 76% which is a C grade.  So at least I'm passing for the week.

Next week will not be a short week and now that my goals are in place, the plan is to bring that grade up to at least a B.  Let's see how I do.

Remember, forget skinny...train to be a fit badass!
