Monday Motivation – Week 5 – Team RoadRunner

Monday – 8/22

This week just started off bad.  As I reported in my Sunday Stats, I had a power issue late last week that caused me to move work into my living room from my office.

Working on my couch and coffee table was a big mistake.  My posture was so bad that I didn’t make it through the day Monday before it was hard to stand up.  This naturally affected my steps as I was in too much pain Monday night to make up steps after work.  I chose rest instead.

This doesn’t help with the deficit I have against Team Sloth.  But there’s always tomorrow.

Tuesday – 8/23

Tuesday was quite a bit better.  I approached the day differently on Tuesday.  Instead of sitting on the couch hunched over all day.  I got up and stretched a lot.  Which gave me more opportunities for steps.

I still spent a lot of the day hunched over but I tried to get up and move every half hour to keep from getting too stiff in my back.

I was really hurting pretty bad from Monday but I think the stretching helped some.  At this point, I knew I was losing the Steps Challenge but I wasn’t just going to give up.  I had to at least try and catch up.  So Tuesday was a pretty good day.

Wednesday – 8/24

Wednesday was my best day ever for steps.  However, it came with a price.

About 30 minutes after going to bed Tuesday night, I woke up very sick.  After about an hour of being sick and cleaning it up, I was wide awake and insomnia was setting in.

I was not able to go back to sleep that night which gave me many more hours to get steps in.  I was able to meet my daily goal before I started work Wednesday morning.

And then after work, I was able to nearly double it.

I did take a few short breaks during my work day to get up and walk around a little bit as that was the only way to stay awake and finish the day.

Fitbit awarded me with a couple new badges as well since this was my highest step day.

Thursday – 8/25

Thursday morning I decided to move work to the dining room table.  The back pain was so bad Wednesday that it was getting unbearable.  I was skipping my workouts to not make it worse.

I figured sitting at the table would improve my posture and calm my back down.  Well, it did do both.

Unfortunately, it caused problems with my hips.  I’m not sure why on that, it may have been the way I was sitting.

I was able to meet my daily goal, but by the end of the day, it was getting harder and harder to walk because my hip felt like it was going to pop out of place.

Friday – 8/26

Friday I took the day off to take my uncle to the doctor.  He has down syndrome and needed to have a procedure done.  He’s in a nursing home but apparently family is responsible for doctor’s appointments.

There wasn’t much opportunity for walking until Friday afternoon and my hips were still hurting from Thursday.  So I was a bit lazy on Friday.

I got the package in the mail on Friday to fix the power issue that caused me to have to relocate my workstation temporarily.  So I spent much of the evening working on fixing that and getting my office squared away.

Saturday – 8/27

So my ankle was super swollen Friday night from being on it most of the day.  I slept late into Saturday morning and by the time I got up, the day was half over.

I spent the day working on my office some more.  I’m working on making the office more ergonomically efficient so that I’m not in pain so often.

Other than working on my desk, I did the best I could to stay off my feet all day Saturday and did very little walking.  I needed the rest after the lack of sleep and pain throughout the week.  Therefore, I did not meet my daily goal.

Sunday – 8/28

Sunday I woke up feeling pretty good.  Much of the pain was gone and I was well rested.

I didn’t want to overdo it Sunday and start my week off super sore, so I took it fairly easy on Sunday as well.

I think the lack of sleep and lack of eating properly a few days during the week played a major toll on my body.

I did come real close to my daily goal but didn’t quite get there.  Team RoadRunner just didn’t do too well this week on catching up the huge gap Team Sloth created.

  • Thighs: 24 inches

Weight Week 5

This week I managed to gain 3.9 pounds.  I’m not sure how that happened other than not getting enough calories all 7 days and not getting enough sleep all 7 days.  Oh well, it is what it is.  I work that 3.9 pounds back off.

So Team RoadRunner is likely not going to catch up with Team Sloth on this challenge.  There was just such a huge step gap created that I got too far behind with not enough time to catch up.  That was poor planning on my part I suppose.

Goals for this upcoming week:

  1. More water, I need to force that 4th bottle each day.

    Womens Fitness Challenge
    Meep! Meep!

  2. Bodyweight Exercises 4 times this week.
  3. 7 hours of sleep each night.
  4. 20,000 step daily average.

Overall, team RoadRunner plans to see if there’s any chance at all of catching up on this thing.

Anybody out there cheering me on?
