What Motivates You?
Now, I’m nowhere near skinny and I’m downright unhealthy. I’m not trying to be skinny anymore, I’m trying to be healthy. I’m trying to lose weight as part of that journey back to good health.
But sometimes, things happen that blur my motivation. For instance, Christmas happens and little boxes of chocolate and sweets fit perfectly inside stockings! I find myself quickly erasing any progress I had made previously.
When I see my progress sliding backwards, it’s easy to say, “You know what, forget it! I’m never going to be able to do this anyway.” It’s a vicious cycle that I constantly have to claw my way back out of. Do you find yourself losing the motivation to continue on your own journey? What if…there was a financial motivation for getting healthy?
Are you looking for a little extra motivation to help you lose weight? If winning money is enough motivation for you, you’ll definitely want to check out HealthyWager from HealthyWage.com where you bet on yourself and win money for losing weight.
How to Get Paid for Losing Weight
I recently signed up with HealthyWage and am testing how to get paid for losing weight.
These Women Won Serious Money For Losing Weight!
See, if getting paid to do it doesn’t motivate me…I’m not sure anything will!
Here’s how it works:

Make a Bet
I don’t have a lot of extra income right now, so I opted to pay my bet in monthly installments. Starting this baby off with $20 per month because I know that I can spare $20 every month for six months. This adds up to $120 bet. That’s a pretty large bet. However, the return on investment is huge! It’s a 322.50% return on investment in 6 months. All I have to do is lose the 50 pounds, and HealthyWage will pay me $507.74. That gives me my $120 back, plus an additional $387.74.

Since this was my first time, and I know that I keep running into obstacles to overcome with my weight journey, I just bet that I’d lose 50 pounds. I lost 20 pounds right before I broke my ankle and then gained 50. So I know I can lose 50 pounds. I know it’s possible, I just haven’t been motivated enough to make it happen. With money on the line, I will make it happen. Watch.
Make a Weight Loss “Bet” Today!
Weigh In

After placing my bet, I had up to 90 days to get weighed in and the time to lose the set amount began once I weighed in.
The process of weighing in prevents people from scamming the app to earn big money for doing nothing. It keeps you honest, I like it.
To weigh in, I had to get my son to take pictures of me and a video of me getting on the scale and showing my weight. This was not a pleasant thing to do at all but is a necessary part of holding myself accountable AND without doing it, I wouldn’t know how to get paid for losing weight. So, it’s done.
The app guarantees you that they won’t post your pictures or videos, they just serve as prove that you weigh what you say you weigh so that when you claim you’ve lost what you set out to lose, you can prove you actually did.
Spread the Wealth
Next, HealthyWage offered to pay me $40 for referring you to them also. But it’s even better than that, they’ll give you $40 too! If you sign up from any of the links on this page, once you place your wager on yourself, they will pay us both $40. And they do this an unlimited number of times. So, if you then referred 10 people that also made wages, those ten people would earn $40 AND you’d earn $40 for each of the ten people.

Imagine earning $400 just for telling the others! It only takes 10 people! Imagine how much you could earn if you already had a following with lots of people.

Dashboard
Once I got through the initial process of signing up and placing my wager, I was able to login and see my dashboard. At the very top of the dashboard, I see the details of my personal wager.

I found that after I weighed in, an additional $40 was added to my prize amount! WooHoo! I wonder what else I can do to increase my prize! There are also links to review the rules and FAQs as well as Success Stories. I can even buy more time if I need to!
On the dashboard, I’m able to create posts on the left hand side of the page. This is where we’re encouraged to post sweaty selfies and before/after pics in order to obtain “well-deserved applause”. We see the progress of other people here as well so we’re able to cheer them on too.

On the right hand side of the page, we’re able to track our progress on our own personal wager. Right now, the week after Christmas, I am most definitely off track. In fact, I have gained 5 pounds since my starting bet on December 17th. But that’s okay, I’ll get it back off.
The dashboard let’s you know if you’re on track or not. It lists your starting weight as well as your goal weight and even tells you how much you should weigh at this moment in your journey in order to achieve your prize. It lists how much weight you’ve lost already, the time remaining for your wager, and your progress to goal.

The personal stats section breaks down the data for you so you can remind yourself when you started, how much weight you’re looking to lose, how much weight you’ve already lost, how much time has lapsed, etc. Lastly, on the dashboard, there’s a section that allows you to post your before and after pictures. Nobody sees these photos but you.
Challenges
I looked around the site to see what else was on there and I stumbled across the Challenges section. So, naturally, I had to look and see what kind of challenges they had. I found the Jingle All the Way Step Challenge and with Christmas being less than a week away, I jumped right in!

The way the challenges work are very similar to your personal wager. You place a bet to accomplish a certain task by a certain date. In the case of this specific challenge, the goal is to increase my personal daily steps by like 10% or something. It’s a 60 day challenge with a $60 entry fee which I broke up into 2 payments of $30 each.

After connecting the app to my Fitbit app, it calculated my average steps and gave me a Personal Step Goal of 600,000 steps which is about 10,000 steps per day. In the meantime, the jackpot increases each time someone joins the challenge and, at the end of the challenge, the jackpot will be divided among each participant that met their goal.

So, for this example, the jackpot is currently at $8,685. Let’s say that there are 100 people that sign up for this challenge. If all 100 people met their goal, each participant would earn $86.85. But if only 50 people achieved their goal, that 50 people would earn $173.70 each.
Team Challenges Too
If a supportive community is what you’re looking for, rest assured you will have that here. Not only can you post your progress and cheer other people on, but you can also participate in team challenges which increase your winnings!

You could win up to $10,000 just to play well with others!
Bottom line is this, if you think money will motivate you even a little, then go ahead and sign up. Check out HealthyWage even if you’re not ready to place a wager on yourself just yet. Check out the site and see if it’s a good fit for you. You have nothing to lose!
HealthyWage seems like a pretty awesome way to get healthier. Betting money probably helps motivate a lot of people who wouldn’t normally be motivated at all. *cough, cough* Me *cough cough.*
I think I understand how Healthy Wage can afford to pay people when they participate in the challenges because it is essentially dividing the entry fee among those who accomplish the goal. But I am a little confused as to how they afford to pay people large returns on personal bets. Where does this money come from? Is it kind of like a high interest rate that you get only if you achieve your goal? Or does it come from the money people pay when they lose bets?
Hi Mariah,
LOL, I totally get it! That’s exactly why I signed up for it. I needed a little extra motivation to get up off my butt and not be sedentary. Even though I was working out each day, I was sitting the rest of the time. Since I signed up with HealthyWage, I’m getting up every single hour to make sure I get my steps in.
To my knowledge, there isn’t any interest rate involved. I believe the money mostly comes from people that bet on themselves and lost. Also, HealthyWage holds team challenges where teams of five compete and only one team wins. According to the FAQs, HealthyWage is financially supported by insurers, health systems and hospitals, food companies, and the government. Government and corporate leaders know that incentives work and are a cost effective solution (paying incentives costs less than paying for health care for an obese population).
I have never heard of such a thing, This sounds awesome. A bit scary tho that you have to put money into it but I guess it works as a motivation. Do they give you a routine to follow or do you have to do it on your own? Is it like a community where you can support each other?
Hi Alexandra,
HealthyWage does not give you a specific routine, though there are step challenges where you can also earn money by taking a certain amount of steps. For example, my current challenge requires me to increase my daily steps by 10%! So far I’m totally knocking this out of the park.
It definitely is a community where you can support each other. They encourage you to join teams in order to support each other, though that’s not required. Also, you have a spot to post (flaunt) your progress where others can see and support you. That is entirely optional.
I have to agree with you that if I can’t lose weight with an incentive of getting paid money then nothing will get me there!
HealthyWage may be the best way to go with losing weight.I’ve tried everything else. Maybe it’s money that is the answer!
I’ve never heard of HealthyWage but I think it’s a great incentive for sure. The odd thing is that I never bet on myself before! I’ve bet on many things in my life but not myself.I have to look into this. Just how big is this program and can you bet on other things?
Hi Rob,
HealthyWage is huge. It has been featured on all of the big news outlets plus Woman’sDay, AARP, Consumer Reports, Shape, The Doctors, Fitness, EBN, Forbes, and The Home Journal to name a few.
They also work with employers to encourage fitness within the organization. There are hundreds of thousands of members. On their Success Stories page, they currently show that 17,531 ribbons have been earned, more than a million dollars earned, and 2,345,973 pounds lost through this program. You should bet on yourself! If you do, invite me to your team!
I was so intrigued by the title of this article I just had to stop and read it…. How To Get Paid For Losing Weight… certainly an added motivator with money involved. The concept is a pretty creative one. Is it limited to certain countries or available on a global basis? Thanks.
Hi Myles,
I agree! It’s very creative and it’s working brilliantly! HealthyWage is available to residents of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico & throughout Latin America, Australia, and most of Europe and Asia.
